We have talked about liability before when how to hire a private detective.  If you hire someone and they do some illegal on your behalf, there is a potential that you can be held accountable both in a civil and criminal court room.  Remember if you are receiving intelligence or evidence obtained illegally, that is called conspiracy.  While you did not commit the crime, you hired someone that did.

Currently, The FAA has not come down with a narrow focused ruling.  But in the midterm they have said that hobbits cannot fly model aircraft or drones for commercial purposes.  So any private investigator that sells drones surveillance as a service.  Or if they “package” it as part of a service they are in violation of federal law.  The FAA has actually cracked down on some of those start up Drone service providers in Indiana already with hefty fines.

Here is some free advice, if someone uses drone video or photographic evidence against you in court, your attorney should easily get it thrown out as it was obtained illegally.

That is NOW leverage.

These are most likely going to be modified over time as they are too restrictive on a new and devolving industry.  The results of a drone flyover are incredible and serve only to help in most commercial applications.  Unless that is of course if you are committing fraud, or doing something illegal that would only be seen by such a U.A.V.
