Here is a common ongoing extortion scam on the internet.
You get a random like or swipe, or poke from any dating app or instant chat app on your phone.
For what ever reason, you find it a good idea to send a naked picture of your self to an unknown person. The next thing you know is that a parent, or unknown lawyer or unknown person with any title or even a picture sent back says you just committed a child porn type of crime. It doesn’t matter that the person’s profile you sent the picture to said they were a girl 18 to 55 years old. You have no evidence of that. They want money to make this go away quietly.
#1 the police don’t ask you to pay a victim in any crime to drop charges.
#2 Only the police or prosecutor can get an arrest warrant for you.
#3 Any lawyer is not going to extort money via email or text. They will file notice of suit first. (sorry for throwing my lawyer friends under the bus on that one)
Good rules to follow.
- Anything involving money gram or gift card payment is a scam.
- Do not send naked pictures of yourself to anyone.
